The reconstruction of the existing signal box building in Hürth Kendenich has been finished successfully. The extension building with a floor area of 150m2 which includes an external staircase and an elevator with direct external access was realized to improve substantially the functionality and the accessibility to the building. The construction works extended from January 2020 to September 2021.

The new extension building consists of an upper floor which was built on four strong concrete columns. Underneath this upper floor there is a newly designed brook which has received a new bed made of reinforced concrete in the course of the construction measure. This measure does not only convince esthetically but also promotes the ecological improvement of the area. The whole infrastructure was modernized to meet the demands of the present use.

Particularly, the renewal of the ventilating and air-conditioning systems of the control room has to me mentioned. A modern heating and cooling ceiling was installed which is operated by two powerful heat pumps. This innovative technique ensures a pleasant room climate and optimizes the energy consumption. Furthermore, the measures included the renewal of one out of three electrical grid connections as well as of the low voltage main distribution board to ensure the electric supply of the building.
