Villa of the Director of the Cologne Zoo
The former director’s villa on the premises of the zoological gardens of Cologne, built in 1865 and a listed monument, was successfully renovated and restructured. The two-floor building, which originally served as the home of the director of the zoo, now offers a modern restaurant and event area on the ground floor as well as office and conference rooms on the first floor.
The structural restoration of the villa was implemented in close cooperation with the Department for the Preservation of Listed Monuments of the City of Cologne. The aim was to preserve the historical elements of the building and, at the same time, to create the opportunities for a modern usage The newly designed restaurant together with the outdoor gastronomy invites visitors to enjoy the historic atmosphere and to experience culinary delights.
On the first floor there are modern offices and conference rooms which were designed for the multipurpose requirements of today. The basement does not only serve as storage facility but also accommodates the whole technical equipment which is needed to operate the house. Due to this successful renovation the villa of the director becomes a popular destination for events and gastronomic experiences in the Cologne Zoo.
